Found clothes

In the United States, at least in my small walkable city of Lancaster, I'm constantly finding clothes on the ground that I can rescue. Sometimes people deliberately leave them in piles marked "FREE", but sometimes it's clearly something that got left behind accidentally, sometimes rained on. I like taking those things home, laundering them, and seeing if they can find new life with me or with somebody else.

In Panama, there's not so much that. I'm not entirely sure why; maybe it's just the people here generally have less, so they generally care more? It might also just be that it's warmer here, so people are less likely to have extra hats or gloves that they can accidentally drop on the ground, and also they're less likely to take off a jacket when they're playing basketball and leave the jacket behind. So maybe it's more a weather-related thing than a socio-economic thing?

Nonetheless, I have still managed to score a bunch of free clothes. Behold!

  • Three pairs of shoes left behind at my AirBnB by other guests who didn't want to cram them into their suitcases.  The wonder of all wonders is that the shoes actually fit me (I have large feet, so most of my found shoes are way too small for me). Also, somewhat surprising, these are all the kinds of shoes I actually can and will use: I keep eyes out for running shoes and water shoes all the time, so this trio is a bit of a "Jackpot!" for me.
  • A red striped sweater I saw on my walk to and from church. The third time I passed it, I claimed it.  I had to pick out a LOT of grass seeds, but now it's all clean and beautiful.
  • A hoodie my husband found by the side of the road and brought back for me. This is how I know he loves me, that he actually rescued clothes as a gift for me.
In addition to clothes, I also rescued a sloth a while back. The sloth is now in the U.S., living with my son.
Awww, how cute!
